AFTER YOUR PORTRAIT / 01

A little art.
The right size.

Before you print your digital pet portrait, check its pixels, choose a size, and decide what stays inside the edges.

START WITH THE FILE

Use the download, not the preview.

PawMotif supplies the approved artwork as an unwatermarked PNG after payment confirmation. Open My portraits to download it and save your own copy within the 90-day download window.

The smaller watermarked preview and gallery images are for viewing. They are not the purchased file to send to a printer.

Read your file’s actual pixel width and height. A ready portrait shows “Download dimensions” when those values are available. You can also open the downloaded file in an image viewer: on a Mac, Preview’s Info button opens its Inspector.

Dimensions vary between files. The worked example below is 1,536 × 2,304 px; replace it with your own values.

NO UPLOAD NEEDED

Pixels in. Possibilities out.

These calculations do not resize or upload your image. The PPI is your chosen planning value, not a quality guarantee. Ask your printer what it needs.

1. Your file
300 is an example setting. Use your print provider’s requirement.
2. A print size to compare

AT 300 PPI

5.12 × 7.68inches

13 × 19.51 cm · no resampling

Fit the whole image

5.33 × 8 in (13.55 × 20.32 cm) inside your 6 × 8 in (15.24 × 20.32 cm) box, at 288 PPI.

Keep every edge. The remaining space becomes a border; ask the printer how it will be positioned.

Fill the print area

256 PPI at 6 × 8 in (15.24 × 20.32 cm).

About 11.11% of the image area would be cropped. The crop position determines which details are lost.

No stretching is assumed. A borderless printer may trim additional edges; review its final preview.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

Keep the familiar details.

01

Size is a calculation

Print width in inches is pixel width divided by PPI; height works the same way. Increasing the print size spreads the same pixels over more space.

02

A crop changes the picture

Different file and paper proportions leave borders or remove edges. Look again at ears, whiskers and paws before accepting a fill-to-frame crop.

03

Check with your printer

Confirm the file format, paper, margins and color requirements. Changing a resolution label alone does not add image detail. Keep an untouched original.

Printing is arranged separately. PawMotif does not supply paper prints or frames, and these calculations are not a physical print test.

How the numbers work

Pixel and resolution relationships follow Adobe’s image size guidance. See Apple’s Preview Inspector instructions for file information. Unit conversion uses NIST’s conversion factors: 1 inch = 2.54 cm.
